How will Apple Pay affect mobile ecommerce sales?
Will Apple Pay will finally transform conversion rates on mobile?
Conversion rates (CR) on a mobile for ecommerce sites has, up until now, been woefully low compared with desktop. Often the CR is 50% lower than on tablet or desktop.
Without a service such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, it’s a laborious and long-winded process to pay online using your phone with painful forms and clunky user interfaces.
With Apple Pay and Face ID, it’s literally 1-click.
I think this will have a massive impact on ecommerce sales from a mobile device. There will be a tipping point of number of users who regularly use Apple Pay and then people will prefer this method over inputting all of the details manually.
I believe that Apple Pay, along with ever increasing internet speeds on a mobile, will lead to a sharp increase in people buying products from their mobile device over the next few years.
So how do you prepare for this?
Firstly, make sure your ecommerce website is fully mobile responsive so that it will automatically adjust to the larger screen sizes.
Secondly, integrate Apple Pay as a payment method. There are lots of 3rd party plugins to achieve this in Magento or WooCommerce.
Once integrated, make sure it’s clear to users that you offer this payment method at your checkout.
Next, test your mobile website thoroughly to make sure that the buying process is as seamless as possible. Use your site regularly on a mobile and continually test it as and when you add new content.
